        The XTC system measures the thickness of the strip without physically touching it. This benefits the user because continuous, on-line measurement can be accomplished in real-time without the necessity of stopping the process for hand miking. Unlike on-line contact gauges, there is no possibility of causing scratches or other defects on the measured materials. Also, if provided with scanning capabilities, measurements can be taken anywhere across the width of strip, not just at the center-line.
